Hyderabad: The state government has decided to hereafter celebrate the Independence Day, Republic Day and the State Formation Day at Public Gardens Lawns opposite Jubilee Hall instead of Golconda.

During the review meeting organised by Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao at Pragathi Bhavan with respect to the impending State Formation Day celebration, the Chief Minister directed the officers concerned to examine the possibilities of organising the celebrations without causing any inconvenience to the people.

According to the Chief Minister’s Office, city police commissioner Anjani Kumar proposed the idea of conducting the celebrations in Public Garden Lawns opposite Jubilee Hall.

The idea was received well in view of the fact that both the Public Gardens Lawns and the Jubilee Hall are locations of historical significance.

Further, the officers present in the meeting agreed unanimously that the police and student parades in Telangana should be done away with like in many other states in India.

Officials further expressed that in addition to the flag hoisting and the chief guest’s address, they could also conduct At Home, poetic meets and award presentations as part of the celebrations. The review further explored if there was any scope for changes in the manner of conduct of the celebrations.

Officers concluded that since the State Formation Day falls on June 2, which most likely will be a hot summer day with the possibility of heat waves, it would be a bad idea to involve school children in the parades and other activities at the event.

After taking into consideration all the aforesaid inputs, Mr Rao directed the officials to start making arrangements to celebrate the impending State Formation Day at Public Gardens Lawns from 9.30 am to 10.30 am on June 2.
