GHMC plans to set up skyway between JBS and MGBS

The GHMC has come up with a new proposal: A 11-km elevated corridor between Jubilee Bus Station in Secunderabad and Mahatma Gandhi Bus Station, Imlibun. The skyway, projected to cost Rs 2,418-crore, has been proposed under the Strategic Road Development Programme. The civic body has prepared a detailed project report according to which Rs 1,500 crore would be spent to build the four-lane corridor and Rs 918 crore to acquire land. Once the skyway is complete, the Tank Bund road would be closed for traffic and used as a recreation zone besides conducting state events including Independence Day and Republic Day parades.


A GHMC official said STUP Consultants Pvt. Ltd had conducted a feasibility study and submitted the DPR. The DPR proposed route is via Moazzamjahi Market, Abids GPO, Bashe-erbagh, Liberty, Ambedkar Statue, Kattamisamma temple, Sailing Club Annexe, Paradise Circle to JBS. A senior GHMC official said that the flyover will add four lanes to the existing roads. An official said that commuters have to suffer severe traffic snarls during the construction of the  project if it is approved.
